Cosplay (costume play) is a Japanese subculture centered on dressing as characters from manga (comics), anime, and video games, and, less commonly, Japanese live action television shows, Japanese movies, or Japanese pop music bands. However, in some circles, "cosplay" has been expanded to mean simply wearing a costume.

Cosplay（costume play，“角色扮演”一詞的英文縮寫(xiě)形式）是日本的一種亞文化現象，主要的形式是參與者將自己打扮成漫畫(huà)、動(dòng)畫(huà)或者視頻游戲中的角色；有些不太常見(jiàn)的cosplay中人們也會(huì )將自己裝扮成日本電視劇、電影或者流行樂(lè )隊中的角色。不過(guò)，在某些領(lǐng)域，cosplay的概念已經(jīng)被擴大，任何穿著(zhù)劇服的行為都可以被稱(chēng)為是cosplay。

While having thrived in Japan for more than 20 years, the cosplay culture has just recently become popular in China, and the craze for cosplay is the latest trend hitting Hong Kong's teenagers, who are already immersed in a pervasive culture of Japanese anime and gaming.
