B: I see somebody is missing the boat. I wonder how she's going to feel once she finds out who's here tonight.

“Missing the boat”的原意是“錯過(guò)要搭的船”,在口語(yǔ)里常被用來(lái)指“錯失……”的意思。
2. If You Snooze, You Lose! 如果你不注意,就錯過(guò)良機了。
A: Hey! Where did all the cake go? I haven't got any of it.
嘿!蛋糕都到哪兒去了?我一點(diǎn)都沒(méi)吃到。
B: There's no cake left. Your brother ate the last piece. If you snooze, you lose!
(蛋糕)都沒(méi)了。你弟弟吃了最后一塊。你沒(méi)快點(diǎn)行動(dòng),機會(huì )就沒(méi)了啊!
有些鬧鐘上面有一個(gè)讓你可以在鬧鐘響后, 再小睡一下的按鍵。這個(gè)按鍵就叫“snooze”。所以“If you snooze, you lose.” 的意思就是“如果你貪睡的話(huà),你就不會(huì )贏(yíng)了”,經(jīng)常用來(lái)表示“如果你不注意/不快點(diǎn)行動(dòng),就會(huì )失去機會(huì )了。”
