推薦制的原則為學(xué)生整體的綜合素質(zhì)。只有整體素質(zhì)優(yōu)秀的學(xué)生才能被提名參加北京大學(xué)的自主招生考試。

文中的independent recruitment就是指“自主招生”，這種招考形式給予高校一定比例的自主權，可以繞過(guò)分數真正地選擇“個(gè)性”學(xué)生。例如有些學(xué)校在招生中試行的nominations from their headmasters（校長(cháng)推薦制）。但由于家長(cháng)和考生擔心招考透明度，也引發(fā)了人們的擔憂(yōu)。

Recruitment常用來(lái)表示“吸收新成員”，企業(yè)招聘就可以用它來(lái)表示，例如recruitment coordinator（招聘協(xié)調人）。在征兵工作中它也可以表示“招募新兵”，例如recruiter 就是指“征兵人員”。

除了independent外，autonomous也可以用來(lái)指“自主權”，比如年輕人享有marital autonomy（婚姻自主權），企業(yè)享有right of autonomy for enterprises（企業(yè)自主權）等等。
